Malpractice Suits and other Conspiracies
The New England Journal of Medicine reported on a Harvard study that found that 40% of all medical malpractice lawsuits had NO EVIDENCE of injury to a patient or error made by a physician.? Still 15% of the money paid out every year goes to settle (read shut up) the case so that the hassle can be avoided.? I rarely rant about this kind of thing but I've seen so many doctors have their careers permanently damaged by frivolous lawsuits that would never be filed if it weren't for the fact that malpractice insurers will almost always settle the claim regardless of the merit.? They do this just to avoid the hassle and expense of going to trial.? It's cheaper to just give the accuser 50-100 thousand bucks to make them go away.? Lawyers have created this problem and claim that doctors need to be policed by "someone."? They neglect to mention that they frequently take as much as 40-50 percent of the settlements that they collect.?
?
I know of two excellent surgeons that committed no wrongdoing and were caught up in?lawsuits that involved other doctors.? They had nothing to do with the problems that the patients alleged but still wound up paying over a million dollars and had to completely retire from the high risk procedures that they had trained years to perform.? I think they both have more peaceful and less stressful lives thanks to the sick malpractice system that we have to bear today.? It's the society that all of us live in that has suffered the most.? We now have two less highly committed well-trained surgeons who can heal us and save our lives when we are in the worst possible situations.
?
Distraction from practicing good medicine is becoming the name of the game right now for any doctor who has high standards and excellent skills.? I believe it is the love of money that is the root of all evil and the current malpracatice crisis.? Some people claim that there is a conspiracy against doctors or this and that.? I believe that Jesus came to expose the conspiracy for what it is.? It is simple.? Jesus said that the devil has a simple horrific plan.? He wants to steal, kill and destroy.? If you see a pattern that has similar characteristics you might want to look at the scriptures to discover the keys to the "conspiracy theory" of all "conspiracy theories."? The great news is that Jesus defeated the devil at His ressurection and made his game plan obvious to anyone willing to see and hear the truth.? He invites you to be a part of the solution.? Loving people is the antidote.? That's a conspiracy we can all live with!?
