Double Chins, Spare Tires and Love Handles
Man, that's a lot of hardware.? I can't imagine anything less sexy or more likely to cause self-loathing and disgust.? I also believe that government researchers are right about the methods to connect with the public on the issues of obesity and disease.? Trying to convince someone that a little bit of exercise will go a long way is not that easy to do.? As I've heard it said "Every time I get the urge to exercise, I take a couple of deep breaths and it usually passes!"? There needs to be a shift in our culture that makes it totally "uncool" to be a couch potato.? With the rise in obesity a false assumption has developed that says ?Some people are simply destined to be fat!?? That?s simply not true.
The
Some of the terms used to describe being ?out-of-shape? have specific functional and biological foundations:
1.????? Spare tire (?a gut?) a.k.a. ?muffin-top? = increasing insulin resistance with higher and higher likelihood of developing diabetes and heart disease
2.????? Love handles = hormonal imbalance from stress and imbalanced cortisol
3.????? Double chin = morbid obesity with BMI from 30 and above associated with joint deterioration, high blood pressure, heart disease and higher rates of nearly every other degenerative disease
4.????? Junk in the Trunk = Estrogen excess from foods or environmental exposure with increased caloric intake and inadequate exercise
OK, so the biology isn?t that exciting.? So, what is?? Looking and feeling great seem to be the strongest motivators for people to buy into a plan to become healthy.? Younger folks assume they are bulletproof and only want to know what healthy lifestyles will do for them on the basketball court that afternoon or on the dance floor that night.? Older folks are interested in staying alive but want to be sure that their efforts are not in vain.? The benefits of exercise and good nutrition apply equally to everyone. ?If you know precisely what to do for your specific body type and current condition these rules apply with greater effect.? That?s why we developed the Better Body Brighter Mind System.? Now people can get a truly customized plan that fits their precise needs including:

?Fish Oil Supplements Are Safer than Fish
In December's Archives of Neurology Journal there was a story that supported eating at least two fish meals per week.? The problem is that the levels of toxins and mercury in fish are continuing to climb.? There is no doubt that the benefits of fish oil are enormous and improve brain function and development in newborns as well as a whole raft of benefits in adults.? The December study found that elderly people who ate fish at least once a week did better on tests of memory and mental acuity than their peers who did not, and had a 10 percent slower decline in mental skills each year.? That's important to me.? I just need to be able to remember to take the fish oil capsules!?
I've written before about the benefits of fish oil supplementation but it seems that the bias against supplements in the medical literature hasn't allowed the profession to consider the difference between purified oils and those found in whole fish (toxins and all).? Fish oils from high-quality manufacturers like Carlson and Nordic Naturals are subjected to stringent quality controls and are distilled to remove mercury and PCB's.? This is very important because the benefit is outweighed by the toxins if you buy a "cheap" product.
You can check out your own potential for toxic exposure by going to www.gotmercury.org and doing their calculator.? It's really fun to see how technology can make it simple for us to make better decisions.? Check it out!
