Hey there! I was just wondering what your take is on all the info out there about the health risks *#*#*#ociated with swimming in a chlorinated pool. Both of our kids occasionally get an itchy rash in the summer from swimming in the chlorinated water, which makes me wonder what else it's doing to them.
Do you believe there are really health risks involved w/frequent swimming in chlorinated pools? If there are such risks, are there any tips for lessening them? (I read about a woman who uses magnesium cream on her kids and sprays them down w/epsom salted water when they get out of the pool) Is there a way to keep a pool clean w/out chlorine that is not overly expensive or tedious? Thanks for your time! Sonshine |

Hey Sonshine,
I am an avid swimmer and think that chlorine is one of the greatest disinfectants in the world and one of the worst things to soak your body in. The "salt-pool" systems cost about 700-1000 dollars to put on an already existing pool and are well worth the money if it can be afforded. There are few things that can be done to limit the damage from chlorine pools if you have no other choice. Here's my short list:
That's just for the pool. Home chlorine in the water supply is even more interesting. I recommend whole house filters first, then shower and kitchen sink-top models. Have a great summer! ![]()
