Healthy Testosterone Levels Improve Weight Loss Results! - James J. Mahoney DO-12/20/2011There is a study out of Dubai that shows that testosterone replacement in men produced improved weight loss outcomes. This study supports lots of previous research that shows that good testosterone levels reduce mortality from all causes in men. If you concerned about living a long life you'll want to consider testosterone levels and getting them checked and then getting it replaced if you need it! It's really easy with pellets, creams or as in the study with injections. Bioidentical is always best!

Is Wal Mart Medicine a Good Thing? - James J. Mahoney DO-12/01/2011
The Pacific Research Institute has just released a piece that describes the positive impact that WalMart will make to primary care medicine. Many of my colleagues would argue with that, but it is my express opinion that the free market is the solution to the medical problem in the United States today. Retail clinics at Wal-Mart, provide service to people that generally don't have a regular doctor. Nurse practitioners and physician's assistants treat simple problems for the most part, including sore throats, sinus infections, and minor scrapes bumps. In our office we frequently tell patients that it probably would be a good idea if they have minor problems to go see their local Quick Clinic or RediMed if they really just want a prescription for antibiotics. We may be ahead of the pack, but we tend to see patients who have more complicated issues that need to be seen by someone with 20 or 30 years experience. I personally think we need to try every free market approach before we allow the government to dictate our health choices. If you asked me to choose between WalMart or ObamaCare, I'll go with the organization with the experience in providing low-cost options and excellent customer service. Read More
Health Insurance or Health Care? - James J. Mahoney DO-10/31/2011
The latest statistics show that Americans are paying more for insurance and less for actual doctor's visits. That should raise the question are we receiving health care or health insurance? It has always been my contention that health insurance does not necessarily equal access to health care. In fact, it seems that has money gets tighter, somewhat because of increased insurance rates patients can no longer afford to receive care that does not produce a noticeably beneficial outcome. It's enough to drive anyone crazy. Just when it seems like stress is becoming completely unmanageable the medical attention you need is completely out of reach. I have some suggestions for managing her stress from deep breathing to some supplementation it might even keep you from needing to see your doctor. Just as well, your insurance probably doesn't cover that anyway.Read MoreColds and Zinc-08/03/2011
Zinc lozenges have been shown in a recent study to shorten the course of the common cold by as much as 42%. That's almost half as long as usual! The study suggests that a dose over 75 mg per day is required to achieve any real benefits though it is highly likely that additional steps may make a lower dose effective as well. Remember Vitamin C? Either way, it's great to see the established literature acknowledging a well-known natural treatment! Interested in a few pointers?Read More
Testosterone for Women? You Bet! James J. Mahoney DO-06/15/2011
Testosterone can alleviate menopausal symptoms in women without adding any estrogen according to a recent article about implanted pellets. Most of the time"estrogen deficiency" is the first though when the symptoms of menopause become a problem. (Think night sweats, irritability, hot flashes, and low or no sex drive.) A better alternative for some women might be testosterone hormone pellets! The latest studies show that it may be just what the doctor ordered.Read More
